Supportive housing

This heritage building was the founding project of  PHS Community Services Society, opening in 1991 as the original Portland Hotel.

The Pennsylvania provides 44 units of supportive housing, half of which have embedded clinical support via a partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health. Two clinical projects are located at the Pennsylvania: the Community Transitional Care Team (CTCT) and the Pennsylvania Supported Suites (PSS). Both are co-managed by PHS and Vancouver Coastal Health.

The Pennsylvania Supported Suites began as a clinical project housed within the Pennsylvania Hotel and jointly operated by PHS and Vancouver Coastal Health. Its mandate is to provide long term care for residents with histories of extensive hospitalization.

The program offers 24/7 clinical care and program support. There are 10 rooms, each of which has its own bathroom and kitchen. Residents receive three meals each day and are given support they require to improve their health, whether that is accompaniment to medical appointments or encouragement to take a walk around the neighbourhood
