The Pennsylvania Supported Suites began as a clinical project housed within the Pennsylvania Hotel and jointly operated by the PHS and Vancouver Coastal Health. Its mandate is to provide long term care for residents who had previously been hospitalized many times in any calendar year.
The program has 10 beds and 24/7 clinical care and program support. There are 10 rooms, each of which has its own bathroom and kitchen. Residents receive 3 meals and day and are given whatever support they require to improve their health, whether that is accompaniment to medical appointments or encouragement to take a walk around the neighbourhood.
The PSS was one of the first programs in Vancouver to offer a Managed Alcohol Program for chronic alcoholics.
Unlike the Community Transitional Care Team, the PSS residents are considered tenants and the PSS is their home. As such, rooms come up for vacancy very rarely.
