The Hastings Urban Farm’s mandate is to build supportive and green opportunities for DTES community members to connect to nature, learn skills and build self-worth.

Our vision is a connected and proud community, with access and ability to grow safe and healthy, culturally appropriate, sustainable food.

The farm is an inclusive space that seeks to offer meaningful work and volunteer opportunities, provide cultural space, support community initiatives, and foster vibrant community grounded in food security. We teach skills for growing and preserving food, composting green waste and providing forage and habitat for pollinators. Community partners at the farm include Hives for Humanity Society, WATARI’s Latin American Outreach Program, and the EarthHand Gleaners Society.

Hastings Urban Farm is moving to the City of Vancouver’s Community Economic Development Hub at 501 Powell, over the next year. We are excited for the opportunities this move will bring, and to partner at this new space with both the City, and the DTES Market, and to grow community and food together.

Farmers at Hastings Folk Garden discuss what they do on the farm year ’round, and community members describe how the experience of working in the garden has impacted their lives.
