Located in the historic Woodwards development, Woodwards Community Housing opened its doors on March 1st 2010 under PHS management.
The groundbreaking project integrates 125 units of low-income housing with market-rate condominiums, retail outlets, and Simon Fraser University’s Centre for the Arts.
Of these units, 25 are designated specifically for clients of the Strathcona Mental Health team; the remainder are home to a diverse group of mostly long-time Downtown Eastside residents. There are five wheelchair accessible units in the building and every suite contains its own washroom and full kitchen, providing residents with both affordable independence and a supportive living environment.
Roger, a resident of Woodwards Community Housing, speaks about how places like Woodwards are needed to help combat homelessness in the DTES. (0:25)
