Mental Health Worker

PHS Community Services Society (PHS) is Urgently hiring Mental Health Workers!

Would you enjoy working with community in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside? Are you interested in a job where you can make an impact on the well-being of others? If this is you, PHS invites you to apply for the role of Auxiliary Mental Health Worker! We are looking to greatly expand our Auxiliary pool with our increased growth as an organization.

About PHS

PHS provides supportive housing, harm reduction, and overdose prevention to those under-served in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside Community. PHS embraces a diverse and inclusive work environment that is reflective of the community it serves.

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Worker role include:

  • Providing support, housing services, and advocacy for our residents and others who are under-served in our community.
  • Assisting with medication administration
  • Harm reduction
  • Assisting with the delivery of recreational activities
  • Safety and security measures
  • General cleaning duties for the project or program
  • Crisis intervention/de-escalation
  • Acting as a first responder in medical interventions including overdose response, medical emergencies

Education and Experience Required:

We are looking for people from all walks of life! Different types of experiences are valued at PHS, including volunteer and lived experience with mental illness/addictions/homelessness. The ideal candidate for this role has the following qualifications and skills:

  • You have a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience with “concurrent disorders/hard to house” populations.
  • You have education in Social Services and or related field, or you have other relevant related experience.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification is
  • Class 5 Driver’s License is a preferred asset as we have some Mental Health Worker opportunities that require a driver’s license.

An equal combination of education, training and experience is acceptable.
