Help PHS unlock $500K matching grant to support the expansion of our Vancouver Food Program

PHS Community Services Society (PHS) needs your support to relocate and expand our Vancouver Food Program. A new commissary kitchen is critical to increasing our capacity to deliver nutritious meals to the marginalized communities who depend on us.

Thanks to the Al Roadburg Foundation’s support, we’re on our way to unlocking their $500,000 matching grant, but we need your help to match it.

After a two-year search, PHS purchased a former restaurant that requires seismic, building, and operational upgrades. This investment will create a purpose-built commissary kitchen dedicated to food production.  We are working toward opening the kitchen in 2027.

Can we count on your support with a donation today to help our Vancouver Food Program?

Why we need your support

PHS’s current commercial kitchen was designed to produce just 200 meals per day—but we’re operating at ten times that volume.

Our Food Program in Vancouver prepares and delivers more than 3,900 meals each day—including 2,000 hot meals—to residents in supportive housing and shelters, program participants, and community members in the Downtown Eastside facing food insecurity.

Currently our commercial kitchen is located inside one of our supportive housing buildings, making our Food Program vulnerable to residentialbuilding emergencies, and increasing our safety and operational risk exposure.

Together, we can go twice as far

With your support, we can strengthen the continuity of our meal service in the following ways:

  •  A purposebuilt commercial kitchen environment that protects production from building related disruptions
  •  Expanded coldstorage capacity that enhances emergency preparedness and stabilizes supply availability
  •  A safe, centralized hub designed to support the scale and complexity of current and future mealproduction needs

With a purpose-built kitchen, we will ensure uninterrupted meal delivery for thousands of people, while supporting wellness and stability for those who are unhoused or at-risk of experiencing homelessness. The community members we serve are living in deep poverty, and facing significant barriers, including food insecurity, mental illness, substance use disorder, brain injuries, dementias and physical disabilities. People accessing our Food Program are often with limited access to support elsewhere due to the complexity of their needs.

This kitchen will also strengthen our production capacity and enhance emergency preparedness in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

This is more than a building—it’s a lifeline.

When you give, someone else gives too. Together, we can go twice as far with the support from Al Roadburg Foundation matching grant.
