PHS Community Services Society is hiring an HR Health & Safety Advisor in Vancouver.

Reporting to the HR manager, the Health and Safety Advisor works collaboratively to develop, lead and promote occupational health and safety across PHS projects and programs. This position acts as a resource providing consultation, guidance and support on health and safety issues to the human resources team, the PHS management team and staff. The Health and Safety Advisor completes incident investigations, trains employees on safety practices, conducts inspections and audits, addresses safety concerns, and promotes a safety culture to eliminate workplace injuries and illness.

As a member of the Human Resources Team at PHS, the Health & Safety Advisor will be working with confidential information.

Responsibilities

Job duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Engages staff, managers and senior leaders in the analysis of staff safety data.
  • Participates in the planning, development and implementation of PHS-wide safety policies, programs and procedures to ensure safe operations and compliance with required standards and practices.
  • Supports safety audits and the identification of safety training needs; develops and delivers training manuals, programs, safe operating procedures, and competency-based testing systems; collects and retains applicable data.
  • Represents PHS’s interests in dealing with regulatory agencies such as WorkSafeBC and liaises with area-specific WSBC officers.
  • Conducts on-site visits to projects and programs to connect with staff and managers on safety concerns.
  • Assists managers in completing violence risk assessments and employee safety surveys.
  • Reviews WorkSafe claims and safety reports with managers. Assists managers to develop action plans to address safety issues and prevent future incidents.
  • Manages the collection, follow-up, tracking and record keeping of incident investigations, corrective action plans, as well as compliance orders and reports completed by supervisors and management.
  • Participates and advises the OH&S committee and assists them to fulfill their role as determined under the Workers Compensation Act and regulations. Updates OH&S documentation and creates safe work procedures and exposure control plans.

Education and experience

  • Diploma in the field of occupational health and safety.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the health and safety field, and knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation.
  • Experience identifying needs, planning and providing guidance and advice on safety initiatives.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated facilitation and training skills.
  • Level 1 Occupational First Aid ticket or higher.
  • WHMIS training and certification.

Terms of employment

Job Type: Permanent, full-time.

Salary: $73,144 per year.

Benefits: Extended healthcare, dental, vision care.

Schedule:  Monday to Friday, 9 am – 5 pm
